The Importance of Volunteering

Talking story with one of our valuable volunteers -
Matt Martinson

“I had a busy day yesterday and I got home feeling exhausted, and as I looked at my text messages, I saw an invitation from Gary to sign wave at the Aiea Overpass. He mentioned in the text that they had only two people ready to go sign wave. My wife had just walked in the door. She was exhausted, too. And we looked at each other and said, “You know, Gary is in the sun, sign-waving, and the least we can do is GO AND STAND WITH HIM.” So, we went and we took a banner and stood next to him over the freeway and when I saw the number of people driving by, it made me realize how big of an impact simply volunteering to stand and wave really had.

In volunteering for the “Gary Cordery for Governor” campaign, I’ve realized the importance of just being there. You know, I’m not a man of great wealth; I’m a teacher, and what I can offer is my time. By offering my time, by standing on that bridge advocating for him, it felt a lot like what Aaron might’ve felt like when standing next to Moses as they held his arms up. To give him support, to volunteer my time is just a matter of being there when he needs me.

Volunteering for this campaign, in particular, is important to me and my family because of the times we are living in right now. As I’m looking at how things have deteriorated in our society and with the division we’ve seen, not just politically, but socially in society, there’s just a real need for integrity in leadership, especially in Hawai’i. We need someone with a clear vision, who can unify, and who we can trust. That’s Gary.

Vote for Gary Cordery for Governor 2022

Gary Cordery is a servant leader.  Hawai’i needs a governor who is willing to fight for the people: someone who honors others first, pursues the truth, and protects the liberty of all.
