Crime is Rising in Hawaiʻi

Strength is Needed to Address the Issue
This comes at a time when Gov. David Ige is being urged to sign legislation that would eliminate cash bail for so-called non-violent offenses, including some felonies.
Is anyone in power paying attention?

In the last three weeks, there have been multiple reports of smash and grab break-ins of Hawaii businesses —— crimes that likely would be covered by the proposed no-cash bail legislation.

Crime overall has increased this year to levels since before COVID. A recent report shows that homicides stood at 13 at the end of April, according to Civil Beat. That exceeds 2017 with 7; 2018 with 5; 2019 with 3; 2020 with 8; and 2021 with 6 during the same period, according to the report.

Now is the time for a strong governor who recognizes the crime on our streets and will take action to keep our citizens safe.

The evidence is all around us.
